Appathon UK: Innovation and Entrepreneurship through App Ideation
www.founders4schools.org.uk/appathon
Teachers and students can get involved in creating and building apps this Autumn term with
Appathon UK, a nationwide app ideas and app creation competition. Throughout September
and October, all primary and secondary school teachers are invited to take part in Appathon UK
by running app ideas contests in their classes and submitting their students’ ideas to the
nationwide competition. Judges from schools, prize sponsors and the general community will
vote on the ideas they want to see made into reality.
In mid-October, University students will choose from the school submissions and build these
ideas into apps. The winning apps from each university competition will be judged in various
categories, including Games, Entertainment, Digital Democracy, Social Networking and more.
Winning teams (including the school students that submitted their app ideas) will be invited to a
ceremony at the House of Commons on November 20th to celebrate their achievements.
Why Appathon UK:
There will be over 3 million new jobs created as part of the app economy in the next five years.
Appathon UK was created to help teachers prepare their students for the future, and for the jobs
of tomorrow. In addition to providing insight into the worlds of entrepreneurship and app
ideation, Appathon UK builds creativity and innovation skills, while encouraging teamwork.
School students who submit video pitches will be eligible to win a range of amazing prizes from
Appathon UK partners, as well as the chance to see their app brought to reality!
Sherry Coutu, Chairman of Founders4Schools, said “Appathon UK not only boosts innovation in
schools, but it is critical in addressing the digital skills crisis by showing students what it’s like to
create the technology that they use in their everyday lives, not just use it.”
Join Appathon UK in creating the next generation of innovators
